The dawn of South Africa’s democracy heralded a new era for telecommunications in the country and on the continent. This was the founding base for MTN, when we entered the telecommunications scene as South Africa’s second cellular network operator in 1994.
With a view to bringing world-class telecommunications to the developing world, we began our expansion in 1998 with the acquisition of licences in Rwanda, Uganda and Swaziland. Through our extensive investment in advanced communication infrastructure in the past two decades, the talent and experience of our people, as well as the strength of our brand, we have grown rapidly to now have operations in 22 countries across Africa and the Middle East. Today, MTN is a JSE-listed multinational company.
MTN offers an integrated suite of communications products and services to customers, including traditional and mobile voice and data, digital and mobile financial services as well as enterprise services to SME, public sector and corporate clients.
We continue to believe in the investment potential of emerging markets, and thus deliver quality services that respond to our customers’ present and future needs. Every initiative undertaken, every innovative stride made, every award-winning product developed… it’s all geared towards making our customers’ lives a whole lot brighter, as we lead the delivery of a bold, new digital world.
